👤 Account Creation
Username & Email
As with any collaborative software you first need to make an account before you can contribute. As you might have noticed, Deternet has split its different sectors in different Bookstack instances for simplicity. In this way users can completely focus on one thing without being distracted with information they don't necessarily need in that moment.Â
Now, this does also mean if you want to contribute to multiple instances that you need to create multiple accounts for each instance. Therefore, it is recommended to
- Use the same username and email amongst instances s.t credibility transfers between instances.
Also, our moderators will then be able to give you the same editing privileges you had on the other instances. For this to work username and email must be the same.
Security
Bookstack at this moment has no revision or approval workflow i.e where changes are first reviewed by moderators before they are published. Now, maybe this function will appear in some future releases since there is a great deal of discussion for this feature at the Codeberg Bookstack Repository. However, for now we need to deal with it in a different way.
To prevent spam on the instances we force contributors to setup
- Email Confirmation
- Two factor Authentication ()
Default NewUser Policy
Impersonation
If a person or bot impersonated you with the same username and/or profile picture on another instance then please inform us about it via email
Send an email with the email address that is connected to your account to bookstack@deternet.org. Because you could send an email with your email address it will prove that you own the account and not the impersonator.Â
After you have send the email we will delete the account with your username and recommend to create an account with your username and email address you used on the original instance you signed up for. We will always see the first instance you signed up for as the authoritative user
